of each rotation.
Only then will
you really understand
where your interests lie,
and which direction
you want your career
to go."

I originally joined the Bank as a graduate within Premium Business Services after completing a Bachelor of Commerce (honours) at Monash University in 2003. I spent the next three years in different areas of the Commonwealth Bank including Institutional Banking, Global Markets and Investment Development.

My current role, which I started in early 2007, involves developing new products and business opportunities, as well as managing relationships with external business partners.  As part of this, I have been involved in the development of the media copyright fund that CFS GAM will be launching in 2008.  Here, my responsibilities have included execution of investments, with particular responsibility for transaction structuring and investment due diligence for current and prospective investments.

One of the most enjoyable aspects of my role has been working on an innovative new venture involving investing in media copyright.  It has given me exposure to an asset class that I wasn’t familiar with prior to working at Colonial First State Global Asset Management, unless you count listening to music on my iPod!

 ‘From my experience,
I would advise graduates
to be open and receptive
to all opportunities
that are presented.’

I completed a combined Bachelor of Science and Commerce degree at the University of Sydney in 2003. Since February 2005 my role has been as an analyst in the Australian Equities – Core team.

My primary focus is on providing value to the Australian Equities – Core team through fundamental analysis of stocks, including healthcare, steel and chemical companies. This entails improving portfolio performance through identifying mis-priced investment opportunities and producing buy or sell recommendations to the portfolio managers. Analysis involves having a focused understanding the company, knowing the industry, researching key drivers of the stock and evaluating market expectations.

Each day presents new and exciting challenges and is an enjoyable aspect of my work. Given the dynamic nature of the financial markets, there is always something new and interesting to learn.

The most challenging aspect of my job is understanding and learning how to value different companies across numerous industries. Colonial First State Global Asset Management has been very supportive of my career progression and training, especially by encouraging me to extend my knowledge through further studies. I am currently enrolled as a candidate in the CFA Level III exam.
